Description
The Signe is a small bell shaped travertine shade, rounded at the shoulder and flaring gently to an open base. The curve is what separates it from a plain cone: light leaving the wider mouth spreads a little rather than dropping in a hard column, so the pool below has a soft edge to it.
It is genuinely small, 4.3 inches across and 4.9 inches tall, so it reads as a quiet object rather than a feature. Hung in a row of two or three along a kitchen island it becomes a rhythm. Hung alone over a bedside corner or a small dining table it more or less disappears until it is lit.
The stone is left open enough to keep its pores and veining, which gives the shade a texture up close that a moulded shade cannot reproduce. It hangs on a dark brown fabric cord with a matching canopy, and takes a standard E26 or E27 bulb.
