Description
The Romy is a prismatic glass dome on an antique brass canopy, close enough to the ceiling to clear a doorway and shaped closely enough to a schoolhouse fitting to sit in an older house without argument.
Prismatic glass is ribbed rather than smooth, and the ribs are what break the light up. Instead of one bright filament visible through clear glass, you get the output scattered across every facet, which is softer to stand under and gives the shade a faceted sparkle when it is lit. It also holds its look switched off, which matters in a hallway where the light is off more than it is on.
The brass is a stepped canopy and a short stem, left visible rather than hidden behind a cover plate. At just under eight inches across and nine and a half tall it suits a hallway, a small kitchen, a landing or a porch ceiling indoors. It takes a standard E26 or E27 bulb up to 40W, works with a compatible dimmer, and hardwires to a standard ceiling box.
