Marlena sets a wide conical fabric shade over a short, dome topped marble base, and the proportions are deliberately bottom light: the shade is broad and the base compact, so the lamp reads as a shade floating over a polished stone pebble. The veining runs differently on every base, because it is cut from stone rather than molded.
Four stones are offered and they are not subtle variations on a theme. Dark green reads as serpentine and is the one that looks most obviously like stone; gray is the quiet, architectural choice; beige disappears into a warm room; and violet red is the statement, close to a calacatta viola.
