Description
The Elsie pairs a tapered linen shade with a slim ornamental arm, which is a combination that has been on bedroom walls for a century because it works. Fabric diffuses rather than directs, so the light lands soft and even instead of throwing a hard edge across the wall. That is what you want beside a bed.
The frame is iron with a brass or black finish, and it is light, just under two kilograms, so it does not need heavy fixings. The shade throws light both up and down, which fills a corner more generously than a downward only sconce.
It is a compact fixture. At 6 inches wide and 11.5 inches tall it suits a narrow wall beside a bed, a hallway or a stairwell, and it projects only 6.5 inches so it does not crowd a walkway. The shade tapers from 3.5 inches at the top to 6 inches at the base. Because the shade is fabric rather than glass, a lower wattage warm bulb suits it best.

Made for beside a bed
Fabric diffuses rather than directs, so light lands soft and even instead of throwing a hard edge across the wall. That is what you want at reading height.
Works better in pairs
Either side of a bed or a mirror, two sconces give even light with no shadow down the middle. A single one leaves one side darker than the other.
Brass or black
The same ornamental arm in two finishes. Brass reads traditional against a white shade; black reads sharper and quieter in a modern room.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need an electrician to fit it?
If a wall point already exists where you want it, it mounts like any other wall light. If there is no point there, you will need an electrician to run one. At 4.4 lbs it does not need heavy duty fixings.
