Description
Almere sets a cream mushroom dome on a slim brass stem rising out of a solid wood base, and the proportions are the whole trick: the dome is wide, the stem is thin, the base is heavy and low. Light goes down and outward in a clean circle, with the source completely hidden, so the lamp lights a table or a bedside without a bright spot anywhere in your eyeline.
The base is turned from North American FAS grade ash, the top grade of hardwood, which is why the grain runs clean and unbroken around the cylinder instead of breaking across knots. It is finished dark enough to read as walnut while keeping the open ash grain visible. The weight sits low, so a lamp this top heavy in appearance is stable in practice.
At 17.7 in (45 cm) tall with a 9.8 in (25 cm) dome, Almere is sized for a bedside table, a console, a desk or a sideboard. It takes a standard E12 candelabra bulb, which is not included, and gives a fixed warm light. It ships with a US plug and needs no wiring. Indoor dry locations only.
